Two children, aged eight and ten, were killed in Minnesota during the back-to-school mass at Annunciation Catholic School.
The gunman —dressed in black and camouflage— entered carrying a rifle, a shotgun and a handgun, spraying dozens of bullets through the church’s stained-glass windows.
The children were kneeling in prayer when they were struck. Another 17 people were injured, 14 of them children; two remain in critical condition.
The assailant, a man in his early twenties, took his own life in the church parking lot. Minneapolis police chief Brian O’Hara said:
“He struck children and worshippers inside the building. This was a deliberate act of violence.”
In a country where the arms industry is sheltered under the banner of “individual freedom,” children’s funerals end up as the flip side of a business that never goes bankrupt.
