In the port city of Tianjin, Xi Jinping unveiled a new geopolitical card: the Global Governance Initiative (GGI). Not just a protocol speech, but a roadmap with five coordinates marking Beijing\u2019s steps in the international arena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The principles sound solemn, almost like a diplomatic manual, but hide key signals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sovereign equality \u2192 every country, big or small, must have a voice. Respect for international law \u2192 interpreted, of course, by whoever writes the rules. Multilateralism \u2192 farewell to the \u201cclub of two,\u201d welcome to the long table of many. People-centered approach \u2192 a social message, though Xinjiang or Hong Kong invite irony. Real action \u2192 fewer declarations, more projects (read: railways, ports and Silk Road routes).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The backdrop is the \u201cShanghai Cooperation Organization Plus\u201d, expanding beyond Central Asia and in Tianjin seeking to position itself as an alternative to the G7 and other Western-led forums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

China speaks of a community with a shared future; critics hear the echo of a hegemony with a Mandarin accent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
